![]() Lightning GT The Lightning GT is a battery-electric sports car, from the Lightning Car Company, has been delayed until at least 2010. Technical details The car has four separate 120 kW wheel motors, sourced from British firm PML Flightlink, providing all-wheel drive and regenerative braking (no conventional disc brakes are planned), with a total output of 480 kW (650 bhp). Its body is made from carbon fiber and Kevlar composites. The Lightning GTS accelerates to 97 km/h (60 mph) in less than 4 seconds and has a top speed of 209 km/h (130 mph). Battery The battery is a 36 kWh Altairnano NanoSafe lithium-titanate battery pack which will take about 10 minutes to recharge, assuming the substantial amount of power required is available. A full charge should give the vehicle a range of 300 km (188 miles). It has an expected lifetime of 12 years and retains 80% of its capacity after 15,000 deep cycles. Price The company is taking orders for 2010 delivery, with an estimate price of £120,000 (or €155,000) given on their website. Deposits of £3,500 are currently being accepted for delivery in 2010. ![]()
